HISTORY
Amidst the lush greenery of Yellapur Taluk in Uttara Kannada district stands the ancient Shri Gopalakrishna Temple of Anagod, a sacred monument of heritage and faith. This historic stone temple, built nearly 800 years ago during the Kadamba dynasty, reflects the spiritual depth and architectural brilliance of Karnataka’s glorious past.
In the sanctum sanctorum (Garbhagudi), Lord Mahavishnu resides in divine splendour, accompanied by Bhudevi and Sridevi. Within the temple complex are beautifully crafted idols of Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, and the Goddess, representing the harmonious blend of devotion and tradition.
Located in the heart of Anagod village, the Shri Gopalakrishna Temple has evolved into a vital social and cultural center for devotees and the local community. Officially registered under the Karnataka Muzrai Department as a Grade “C” temple (Registration No. A/110 KWR), it continues to preserve its sacred rituals and ancient customs.
Devotees regard this temple as a spiritual powerhouse, where prayers are answered, and wishes fulfilled. Daily worship, rituals, and grand festivals are performed with unwavering devotion, sustaining the temple’s centuries-old vibrancy. The newly constructed Kalyana Mantapa within the temple grounds hosts weddings, cultural programs, and spiritual gatherings, fostering unity and tradition.
Today, the temple stands as a living symbol of faith, culture, and heritage—a serene destination for pilgrims and visitors seeking peace and divine blessings. Surrounded by natural beauty and steeped in history, the Shri Gopalakrishna Temple in Yellapur, Uttara Kannada, remains one of the region’s most revered and must-visit ancient Vishnu temples, celebrating Karnataka’s spiritual legacy and architectural excellence.
